Softball Success!

So my first softball game ever was last night...well, thats not entirely true. I think i played one season as a little kid inwhich i remember passing out from dehydration behind home plate and had to be carried off the field. not sure if i even finished the season....

so anyways, back to last night. We get to the field and it is thundering and lightning. If you live in miami you know the lightning i am talking about....giant bolts of lighting that you KNOW are striking the ground somewhere in the vicinity. THE GAME BEFORE US IS PLAYING!!!!!!!! are they crazy? yes, lets swing big metal bats around in an open field during lighting. just brilliant. and it was raining..not hard, just enough to make everything slippery. so anyways, its my first game. i dont know anyone and had told the captain that although i am athletic, softball isnt exactly my best sport, in fact its not one of my sports at all. my goal for the game was to hit the ball...not necessarily far or well, just in front of me. i didnt care if it was caught or they threw me out, all i wanted to do was HIT IT! so, wisely, the captain puts me at the bottom of the batting order, i have never played and wasnt all that concerned about where in theline up i hit. and he sat me out the first inning while we were in the field. all ok with me. i couldnt do any damage on the bench :) So the second inning comes around and he tells me to switch with the girl who was playing catcher...i said, no, i'll go in next time. so i sat again, which was fine. i couldnt screw up if i didnt play. Third inning that we are up to bat. I'm up, i am increadibly nervous. first pitch......i swing and *DING* I HIT THE BALL!!!! and i hit it well!!!! yay!!! I made it to first. SWEET! didnt get farther than that as next 2 batters were out and there was one out before me...but i hit the ball and made it to first base. SO then I was put in right field, should be ok. as long as the ball doesnt go threw my legs or something else embarrassing. One ball came towards me which one hopped itself to me (i caught it) and i threw to second....adn it made it without going over his head or bouncin g on the ground.

and then the game was called, we were down too many runs for them tp let us continue playing. oh well, we lost, but i not only hit the ball, but also made it to first and fielded the only ball than came my way. yay. i think i deserve a cookie. :)
