the longest day ever..
so my flight shouldve landed in rhode island at 7:20pm last night. i got to the airposrt at 1:30pm. My flight was delayed. we left the ground a little after 7pm. for those who cant do the math that would be 5 1/2 hours in an airport with a 1 year old. and then a 3 1/2 hour flight. he did surprisingly well waiting. I rented out a couple of kids to entertain him. the little girl was 7, the little boy was 3. (i didnt really rent them out, but they were waiting too and they played with the baby for like 2 hours.) worked out well. on the plane he fell asleep before we even left the ground. YIPEE!!!! i couldnt believe my luck, a sleeping baby after an exhausting day. my child is the best.
fast forward and hour into the flight. the person in front of me pops open a soda can. the baby just about jumps out of my arms. and my luck just ran out. we fussed an dcried and whined for 45minutes (but not screaming like another child) and then played for the last 45 minutes. not so bad. he was happy and smiley at 10:15 while we were getting off the plane.....all smiles while getting the rental car and when we go tto my dads....and then when i put him to bed i think he realized how unbelievably tired he was and screamed until midnight.....then finally fell asleep. then up at 1:42am crying again but only for about 5 minutes......and up to start the day at 6:50am. lets just say that I am exhausted.

hhmmm...
So not only do i have to fly alone with a go go go jumpy, squirmy, cranky when he's confined child, we now get to throw in sick to that category as well. oh goody, its going to be a fabulous week. He's coming down with some sort of cold and is miserable. we have snot bubbles coming out of the nose (cute i know) and lots of tears when waking up now probably becasue he cant breathe not to mention the teeth coming in that i know are bothering him. super. and we will be far away from the comforts of home and his own crib and all his toys and throw him into an unfamiliar environment. yay. oooh, and lets also throw in the hectic schedule i always have when going to RI driving from one end of the state to the other usually at least once a day. poor thing will probably be even sicker by the time we get back home next week. super.

Flying with baby...
So I'm flying home next Wednesday with the baby. One of my closest friends is getting married the Sunday after i get home. Congrats Jon!! Anyways, that means me and the baby flying home....alone...without E. Ugh. He will probably fly up just for the wedding but that means i have to deal with the baby solo on the actual flight. So far flying with the baby hasnt been horrible, but it definately hasnt been relaxing! And I am forseeing a hectic, exhausting flight this time. My child isnt exactly the "cuddley, just want to hang out on mom's lap" kind of kid. He is a "oooh, whats that, lets pull that down, oooh, something else, lets rip that apart, oooooooooh, I wanna go over there" kind of kid. He never stops moving, whether its crawling, cruising, squirming, anything that is not still. so, flying should be a blast! anyone know where I can get some baby tranqulizers? JUST KIDDING for anyone who thinks I might have been serious. The only time he actually sits still for a minute or two is when I read him a story before nap time or bedtime, and even then its short-lived and occasionally non-existent. so yeah. i am SO looking forward to it. i will probably end up standing in the galley in the back of the plane with the flight attendants like last time. he doesnt cry or complain but it is super exhausting just standing holding a 20lb baby for 4 hours. woo hoo. anyone want to join me?
haha.

Infant Swim Resource
We started our swim lessons today. Not so much swim lessons but survival swim lessons. Infant Swim Resource is a survival swim program that essentially teaches babies as young as 6 months old to float if they were to ever fall in a pool or other body of water. The videos of some of these babies floating is pretty amazing and being that this is south florida and drowing is a major cause of death amoung infants and toddlers I thought that this program was not only facinating but well worth the money. For babies under 1 year they only teach them to turn over onto their backs when they are in the water and float, after a year they also teach them to swim a few feet, roll over, float take a breath and them swim some more repeatedly until they reach a wall or safety. Its a 6 week program where you go every day. The lesson only lasts 10-15 minutes. Its quite a time commitment but again, i feel its very worth it. So today was our first lesson. He cried the entire time but not not load screams like some other kids I saw before him or after him, more like a pissed of complaining whiney cry. Yes, it sucks to see your child cry, and a lot of people feel this program is cruel (mostly because they think they throw the babies in the water and dont actually know anything about the program) but I strongly believe it is effective and well worth a few tears. And once the babies are confident in their abilities they wont be "afraid of water" like many people also believe. Anyways, the first 2 pictures are of him in the water with theinstructor. The third is of him laying on the side of the pool after, his hair sticking straight up due to the fact I was rubbinghis head after until he stopped whimpering, and the third is just cute. He looks mad but its actually just the shot, he was actually laughing and smiling after the lesson!!

Craigslist Rocks
For those of you who are parents or thinking about becoming parents I highly recommend you use Craigslist.org for all those big expensive toys. I bought the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Home off of there for $20....it reatils for like $70, and thats a huge savings on a toy he will probably only use for like 6 months before he gets bored with it. Its fabulous though, it sings and plays music and tells you when you open and close the door ormailbox or turn the light on and off. very cool. I also got the leapfrog learning table from craigslist as well, for $10 instead of $45 0r $50..whatever it reatils for. But he loves to climb on it and crawl through the door and get the "letters" from the mailbox. My father-in-laws surgery went well, he's home, in a lot of pain, but in really good spirits. :)

Waiting..
So its about 8am. My father-in-law has surgery this morning for prostate cancer. I'm confident that he will be fine as they caught it super early, its not aggressive and he is probably one of the hardest working and healthy individuals I have ever met. At 69 yearsold he still works 6 days a week getting up at 5 am every day to go to work. And when he gets home he doesnt sit and relax, he's outin the yard working on something....whether its building a shed inthe backyard, taking apart a motor or other thing that doesnt work and putting it back together or playing around on his fishing boat to make it work better. Even if its 95 degrees out or raining he is doing somehting. So I am not overly worried that somehting will go wrong. But its still surgery and it still sucks. E got up at 4am to go pick up him and his mom to take them to get there by 6 or 6:30, I dont remember which. It should take 1.5 to 2 hours.....so we are all waiting.
In other news i re-arranged out dining room so that we can now use our dining room table. If you dont remember the pictures from a few months ago, i had pushe the table almost up against the buffet thingy to put the "baby jail" that keeps the baby contained and safe. well now we can officially eat at the table. yay. it will be nice ot feel grown up again. :)

Happy Birthday to America!
So i tried to do something "american" for the 4th of july....we were going to go to a parade but after dropping my dad off at the airport we didnt feel like fighting any traffic...and it was nap time. So later in the afternoon we packed up the baby and went to Amelia Earhart Park for hte latin music and food thingy. After $10 to park we got out and walked aroung for about 10 minutes before we decided it wasnt any fun and weleft. Definately not $10 worth of fun for sure. Oh well. We then headed over to Milander Park in Hialeah where they were having a big freestyle concert before the fireworks at 9pm. We thought we'd try it out, it was free and parking was free...except it was on street parking, no fun. But we got their early and actually got a decent space. So we put the baby in the stroller and headed to thepark. It was extremely family friendly (not always the case at the later events) and actually really fun. they played fabulous music and E ended up walking back to the car to get out camping chairs so we could sit in the field and hang out, although we forgot the blanket so the baby could sit on the ground. We gpt there around 6 and were hoping for the best with the baby as his bedtime is 7 and he doesnt do so well off of his schedule. Around 7 tghe clouds started rolling in....and by rolling in i mean it went from bright and sunny to dark and grey...maybe we would be spared the rain??? A few drops fell but we had our big umbrella so we put the baby inthe srtoller and held it over him. And then the warning sirens went off signalling lightning. If you've never heard the lighting siren they have at the parks it is a deafening sound that pierces the ears, and we were sitting rigth next to it. So they came over the mic and told everyone to get out of the park and go sit int heir cars, if it clears up in the next half hour they';ll continue. (meaning if we heard 3 short blows of the siren). yeah, like we were going to sit in the car for a half hour with a cranky baby. So we decided we were just going to go home. oh well. I'm pretty sure they cancelled it all togther as while we were walking to the car there were several large lightnings rather close to us.
So we went home and watched a movie with our friends Abe and Daniella. And it probably worked out for the best, it was relaxing and the baby got to go to bed! Here he is in his 4th of July outfit.

trip to tampa
My dad came to visit this past week. He flew in on sunday morning and monday am we headed to Tampa to watch the Red Sox play the Rays. We lost. We lost all 3 against the Rays although we only watched the first 2 games, better luck next year.
Some of you who post to your blog always talk about all the good stuff you make to eat at home. i love to cook but the husband doesnt love to eat a lot of stuff, he is WAY to picky, so we are pretty boring when it comes to food. However with my dad visiting (3 days here and 2 in tampa) I actually cooked, and I cooked something other than steak (our staple)! Sunday I made pulled pork in the crock pot (thank you Beth for the recipe). It was AWESOME! with some grilled red onions on top and coleslaw on the side (store bought but good). and E actually liked it. we will definately be having it some more. Wednesday i made chicken pounded out and rolled up with ham and cream cheese inside and rolled in a "spicy thai peanut bake" from taste of thai. my favorite for sure. and last night we made quesadillas. I got a quesadilla maker for christmas and left it at my dads, he finally brought it to me and it is the best device ever. way better than bought quesadillas. we filled them with chicken, onions and peppers, mushrooms, ans a ton of cheese. its fabulous. we also made homemade guacamole, we love avocados. I could eat them every day. and homemade pico de gillo. good stuff. i am so proud of myself, i cooked 3 days this week so far! maybe i'll continue the trend. :)
so its the 4th of julya nd we dont reallty have any plans, so far just hanging out at home. we will probably venture out when the baby wakes up and find soemthing to do, after all i did buy him a special 4th of july outfit, i suppose we should at least show it off.
